The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Petrikov is an architectural monument of the retrospective Russian-Byzantine style.
The construction of the stone church dedicated to St. Nicholas was financed by donations from parishioners and local merchants Kebets, Morgun, Korol, Korulsky.
In 1929, the temple, like many other religious buildings in Belarus, was closed and looted, used for household needs, and the bell was discarded and sent for melting.
Since 1941, there has been a flour warehouse here. After the war, parishioners actively participated in the restoration of the church, and Archpriest Evgeny Veiga helped preserve the church.
The interior walls of the temple are decorated with murals, some of which were made by famous artists at the beginning of the 20th century. Rare books have been preserved in the church library.
The temple has three altars: the main one is dedicated to St. Nicholas, the right one is dedicated to the Prophet Elijah, and the left one is dedicated to Basil the Great.
In 2005, some of the murals were restored, and new ones were created by the talented Ukrainian artist Alexander Ivanovich Kutenkov.
Among the holy relics of the temple are a cross with parts of the relics of the saints of the Kiev Caves Lavra, an icon of the Savior, handed over in 1951, and a carved icon of the Mother of God, created by V. Kebets in 1872. The relics of St. Ioann Kormyansky and Archbishop Theodosius of Chernigov, as well as the icon of the Holy Martyr John of Rila, are also kept.
In 1999, the Vodosvyatsky Chapel was built next to the church.
Currently, the church has a Sunday school and two choirs, one of which is sung by professional musicians.
This is an amazing old Orthodox church, which is worth a visit if you come to Petrikov.
