Pershai. Church of St. George and the Mother of God.
The village of Pershai is located a few kilometers from Volozhin, if you drive along the highway from Minsk. For the first time in documents, Pershai were mentioned in the 15th century and the name comes from the Pershaika river. At that time, the place belonged to a Catholic church and in 1493 was the property of Bishop Wojciech of Vilina. In the 16th century, the first church was mentioned.
After the second partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the place is part of the Russian Empire and there was a church, a priest's house (plebania), 2 watermills and an inn. In the 19th century, the place itself belonged to Count Tyshkevich. Originally, the church was wooden with a two-towered facade. The towers were two-tiered and four-tiered. In front of the church there was a wooden bell tower, also two-tiered.
The stone church was built on the central square during the years of the Polish state in 1933. The temple was built at the expense of Count Benedikt Tyshkevich.
During the Nazi occupation, along with local residents, priests Herman and Achilles were killed. The priests could have escaped, but decided to stay with their parishioners at such a tragic moment. A memorial boulder has been erected near the church for the priests.
After the war, the temple was closed. The building was rebuilt, and the towers were dismantled.
With the collapse of the USSR, the church was returned to the Catholic faithful. The temple was reconstructed.
The building is rectangular in plan, three-nave, covered with a gable roof. 2 octagonal bell towers are built on the main facade.
