Pelishche. Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Between the small towns of Kamenets and Zhabinka is the small town of Pelishche, where the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is built on the central street.
The first mention in written sources dates back to the 16th century, and at that time Pelishche was part of the Brest district of the Brest Voivodeship of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The place belonged to the gentry family of Matushevich, and in the 18th century to the Pshezdetsky. In Pelishchi, the landowner park with the pond of the former Gutovsky estate called Zhitin, a Catholic church and a monument to Soviet tankers who died during the liberation from the Nazi invaders in 1944 have been preserved.
The stone church was built of brick in 1934. The history of the Church of the Heart of Jesus began with the fact that in 1925, local Catholics sent an entire delegation to the Archbishop of Vilna on the affairs of the new church. The project of the new Catholic church was developed by the architect from Brest, Vincent Henryk Udovishevsky. In the autumn of 1929, the foundation of the church was laid, and in the autumn of 1934, in November, the new church was solemnly consecrated. The church was built in the Art Nouveau style, which at that time was expanded on the territory of the Polish state. After all, since 1921, after the Peace of Riga, this territory was under Polish rule until 1939. The main volume of the temple is rectangular in plan and was covered with a gable roof with tiles. A massive four–pointed tower is built above the main facade, above which stands a small bell tower. The main entrance is decorated with a portal above which there is a cartouche.
The Baroque sculptures of the Apostles Peter and Paul have been preserved in the interior of the church.
