Vedeto Lake.
Vedeto Lake is one of the most remote and inaccessible reservoirs in the northern Vitebsk region. It lies among huge swamps and dense forests, where there are almost no settlements: the nearest village of Selniki is located more than two kilometers from the northern shore. This remoteness creates a special atmosphere — the feeling of a real "wild zone", where not random tourists come, but those who are looking for silence, fishing and nature without traces of civilization.
Vedeto is of glacial origin and belongs to the hollow type. Its basin is elongated, with depths up to 12.2 m, and the coastal zone is sandy up to 3-4 meters, in places up to 5-7 meters. Then the bottom turns into silty‑sandy and sapropelic. The lake is actively overgrown, which is typical for degenerating reservoirs. The coastline is very rugged: many bays, spits and peninsulas create shelters from the wind and convenient parking spots. In the west there is a large island with an area of 3.6 hectares.
The Vedetitsa River flows through the lake, connecting it with Lake Nekloch; in the west, Vedeto is connected by a stream with Lake Glubochino. This hydrological link makes the reservoir part of a local system of small rivers and lakes typical of the northern part of the Polotsk region.
The surrounding forests are rich in blueberries, cranberries, cranberries and mushrooms. There are swampy areas with shrubs and mosses typical of the transition zone between taiga and swamps. Due to the remoteness and lack of mass tourism, there are many waterfowl here, and rare species of marsh flora can be found in the quiet bays.
Fishing on Vedeto is diverse: pike, walleye, bream, perch, crucian carp, tench, roach, rudd are found in the lake; the reservoir is filled with eel. Commercial fishing is underway, but at the same time the lake remains attractive for amateurs. Spearfishing is allowed during daylight hours, which makes Vedeto a rare exception among the lakes of the region.
Due to its remoteness and swampy entrances, Vedeto is not suitable for mass recreation, but this is what makes it valuable. Here you can spend a day or a weekend in complete silence, meet the dawn on a deserted beach, walk through berry forests or explore the bays by boat. The place is ideal for those who are looking for real wildlife.
