Description

The wooden Orthodox Church of St. Michael is located in the village of Ostrovo in the Slonim district. The first church was built back in the 16th century during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The new temple is believed to have been built in the 19th century during the era of the Russian Empire.

There is some information that the church was built much earlier than the 19th century - around the beginning of the 18th century. This can also be seen from the architecture, as the vestibule with the bell tower was added to the temple later. It is likely that the church was built in the 18th century and originally belonged to the Uniates.

In Soviet times, the church was closed and there was a warehouse here. The service in the church was restored in 1993. The church is active.

Ostrovo. St. Michael's Church.

On the way from the city of Slonim to Ruzhany, the village of Ostrovo is located in the Slonim district. In the 19th century, during the Russian Empire, a wooden Orthodox church was built in the village, which was consecrated in honor of St. Michael the Archangel.

The first wooden church at the Ostrovo was built during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1586. The temple was built on the foundation of the marshal of the Slonim district of Garaburdy. The land on which the shrine was built also belonged to him.

In 1863, the church was renovated at the expense of the treasury. In 1879, the church was completely renovated at the expense of parishioners. There were several parish schools attached to the church.

In Soviet times, after the Great Patriotic War, the church was closed. In 1962, the room was adapted as a grain warehouse. In 1990, the church was returned to the Orthodox faithful and the renovation of the shrine began. In 1993, the church started working again and the church was consecrated.

The building is a monument of wooden folk art. The temple consists of three main architectural parts: the vestibule, the prayer hall and the apse. A four-pointed bell tower is built over the vestibule. The interior of the temple is divided by pillars into three naves. The territory of the temple is fenced with a stone fence.
