Orsha. Memorial "Katyusha".

In the first month of the defense of our country against the Nazi invaders, the railway junction in the city of Warsaw played a major role. The Nazis rushed rapidly towards Moscow. And here, near Orsha, on July 14, 1941, the first use of the BM-13 jet artillery battery, which we all know by the popular name "Katyusha", took place. The first salvo of the battery under the command of Captain Ivan Flerov was fired at the Orsha railway station occupied by the Nazis, where there was a large concentration of Nazi manpower and equipment. In honor of this historical event, in 1966, a memorial "For our Soviet Motherland" was created on the banks of the Dnieper in the center of Vorsha. The opening of the monument was timed to the 25th anniversary of the first Katyusha volley. The authors of the memorial were famous Belarusian architects: Valentyn Zankovich, Leonid Levin and Yuriy Gradau. On the steep left bank of the Dnieper, just behind the bridge, the legendary Katyusha launcher is installed on pedestals, as well as 6 models made of concrete. Near the entrance to the memorial is a black cube on which is written the date of the first use of jet weapons. There is a parking lot near the monument and it is convenient to approach it on foot and drive up.
