Orsha. Kutsein monastery. 79 Franciska Skaryna Street

After the visit of Mogilev by the Unionist Metropolitan Iosafat Kuntsevich in 1619, all the Orthodox churches of the city were closed or handed over to the Unionists. And then Mogilev townspeople founded an Orthodox monastery near Vorsha at the confluence of the Kutseinka stream with the Dnieper. The Orshansky Kutseinsky Bogoyavlensky Monastery was built at the beginning of the 17th century in the Baroque style of the Mogilev School of Doylidism. In 1635, the Bogoyavlenskaya wooden church was built. The church is decorated with murals. There were 38 compositions. The building burned down in 1888 after being struck by lightning. In the 1920s, an underground church of St. Lazarus was discovered during excavations on the site of the temple. The brick church of the Holy Spirit was built in the 1620s. According to some researchers, it was originally two-story. A Cyrillic printing press was founded at the monastery, in which Spiridon Sobal, a native of Mogilev, published "Bukvar" in 1631. The first abbot was Yail Trutsevich from Mogilev. The building of the 17th century, which probably housed a printing house, has survived to our time. It is planned to restore the wooden Church of the Holy Theotokos in the future.
