Oltush. Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior.
The town of Oltush has been known since the 16th century. At first it was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Since 1795 it belongs to the Russian Empire. During the interwar period of 1921-1939, it was part of the Polish state.
In the center of the town of Oltush, on the central Sovetskaya Street, opposite the city beach near the lake, there is the Orthodox Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior.
The first mention of a church in this place dates back to 1668. The temple initially belonged to Uniate believers. The building was renovated and rebuilt three times: in 1783, 1862 and in 1868.
At first, the church was a three–story building, and in 1889 a two-tiered bell tower was added. The tower is covered with a multi-faceted hipped roof. The vestibule is covered with a gable roof. The main log house of the prayer hall is covered with a tent roof. The altar part of the church is covered with a three-pitched roof. Three shaped barrack towers rise above the church.
The interior has a choir with a balustrade and a fence above the entrance. The interior is decorated with colorful flowers and patterns. The apse has a three-tiered iconostasis, which was created in the 19th century. The royal gates are made in the technique of openwork carving. There are ancient icons of the 16th and 18th centuries: "The Nativity of Christ", "Savior Not Man-made", "Descent from the cross", "Archangel Michael" and others. The church has been renovated in recent years. The territory near the temple is landscaped.
