Novoe Romatovo. Pozhezhinsky Tsar-oak.
Polesie is a land of extraordinarily beautiful nature.
If you are traveling in the Brest and Gomel regions, you note that the landscape here is an ordinary country. The forest is usually Pine, because this particular tree can grow very well on sandy soils.
Bit if you had come here 100-200 years ago, it would have been very difficult for you to get to the villages, especially in spring and autumn during floods and rains. There were impassable swamps and marshes. And of course, the main thing for the locals at that time was the forest, which fed the local people. There were relict floodplain oak forests and huge swamp lakes, which sometimes travelers described in their memoirs as a whole sea.
Some old-timers and giant oaks have been preserved since our time. It is believed that it is here in Polesie in the Malorita district that the oldest oak tree in Belarus is located. This is the so-called Pozhezhinsky Tsar-oak.
The tree has the status of a botanical natural monument of national significance. The tree is located three kilometers east of the village of Novoe Romatovo. Experts have determined that this Tsar-oak is about 800 years old. The tree is 46 meters high and over 2 meters in diameter.
To see this oak tree, you need to go to the village of Novoe Romatovo, which is reached by a good asphalt road. Then it's better to request directions from local residents who will show you the way to Tsar-oak. There is a good dirt road leading to the natural monument, and you can easily get there by car.
There are information stands near the oak tree and there is even a playground for tourists: a gazebo and a clearing to put up a tourist tent.
