Myadel'. Monument to Maxim Tank.
Maxim Tank is an outstanding Soviet Belarusian author who glorified the heroism of our soldiers during the terrible war, patriotism and love for their native land. He was awarded the high titles of Hero of Socialist Labor and National Poet of the Byelorussian SSR.
The name of Maxim Tank is a source of pride for the Belarusian people. In the Soviet Union, this talented man was known as a rebel poet, an ardent patriot and a literary innovator. In life, he remained a modest, decent and open person, always ready to help others.
The poet's real name is Evgeny Ivanovich Skurko. He was born on September 4, 1912 in the village of Pilkovshchyna, which is now part of the Myadel district of the Minsk region of the Republic of Belarus. His family was a wealthy peasant family, in which, in addition to Eugene, three more children were raised: Vera, Luda and Fedya.
During the war, his works were imbued with condemnation of fascism, faith in victory over the enemy and glorification of the Soviet soldier. In the postwar period, Maxim Tank continued to develop patriotic themes, glorifying the heroic past, which he considered the most valuable asset of the entire Soviet people.
In 1948, he was awarded the USSR State Prize for the collection "To Know", which at that time was called the Stalin Prize. And in 1978, Maxim Tank became the winner of the Lenin Prize for the book of poetry "Naroch pines".
On December 5, 2014, solemn events were held in the city of Myadel, Minsk region, on the occasion of the opening of the monument to Maxim Tank. Although the event was not of an international scale, it was of great importance for Myadel and the whole of Belarus. Belarusian writers, local residents and district leaders took part in the celebrations. The events took place not only at the monument, but also at the local school named after the national poet.
