Museum complex of folk crafts "Dudutki".
The Dudutki Museum is located 40 kilometers from Minsk, in the Pukhovichi district, located in a picturesque place next to the Ptich River, one and a half kilometers from the village of Dudich.
Dudutki were first mentioned in chronicles in the 11th century. Presumably, in these places there was a land road leading to Polotsk, along which, according to researchers and according to “The Tale of Igor’s Campaign,” the Polotsk prince Vseslav the Magician rode “like a wolf to Nemiga from Dudutki, having learned about the siege of ancient Minsk...”
The Dudutki museum complex is one of the most popular museums in Belarus. Since 1994, tourists from all over the world have been happy to come here, because in “Dudutki” you can not only spend useful time, immersing yourself in history, but also have a wonderful rest! The museum, covering an area of 5 hectares, presents ancient folk crafts. Once in one of the workshops, you will not only watch the work of the master, they will tell you in detail how our ancestors did this. You can even try your hand at some crafts.
Dudutkovsky masters will introduce you to straw inlay and show how you can make a wonderful musical instrument from a piece of wood, and a horseshoe from a piece of metal. Potters, in order to achieve the desired verisimilitude, work according to ancient methods. You will get acquainted with the fine art of straw and wicker weaving. Dudutkovsky weavers weave Belarusian folk belts on “krosny”, and often visitors can take part in the weaving process themselves. Fragrant bread and delicious cheese are made in Dudutki according to ancient recipes. Using the recipes of the gentry, the brewer prepares drinks that can be tasted at the Shynok bar.
In addition to craft workshops, there are many interesting objects located on the territory of the museum. In the zoo you can see ostriches, wild boars, rams and even a peacock. At the stables you can ride on horseback or in a chaise. The autoretro workshop collects cars and motorcycles with a long history. Some of them are still in working order. A special pride of the museum complex is a wooden windmill from the early 20th century, 14 meters high. Another attraction of Dudutok is the Church of St. John the Baptist, built in 2008 and consecrated by Metropolitan Philaret, ready to welcome everyone.
The museum hosts a wide variety of events, many of which become traditional. From year to year, Dudutki celebrates the holiday of the Three Saviors and Maslenitsa, and celebrates Victory Day with demonstration performances by special forces soldiers and “soldier’s porridge.” Since 2009, the medieval festival of the glory of Belarusian weapons “Our Grunwald” has been held in Dudutki. For many years now, the museum has hosted plein airs and festivals of Belarusian folk crafts (straw weaving, wicker weaving, wood carving, weaving, etc.).
