Museum of Nature and Ecology of Belarus

In Belarus, a country with a rich diversity of flora and fauna, you can get acquainted with amazing nature at the Museum of Nature and Ecology. This museum is one of the few in Belarus dedicated to the study of nature.

The museum was founded in 1983 as the Department of Nature of the State Museum of the BSSR. Since 1992, it has become a separate museum, and since 2014, a branch of the National Historical Museum. The museum contains more than 42 thousand exhibits, and is visited by more than 100 thousand people annually.

The museum has six exhibition halls, each dedicated to a specific topic about the nature of Belarus. In one of the halls, "Jungle Behind Glass", you can see exotic lizards, snakes and spiders. The first hall is dedicated to seasonal changes in nature and the animal world.

For example, you can learn about winter bird species that fly to Belarus from the tundra and forest-tundra, as well as about sedentary bird species that remain here all year round.

In our country, four seasons are clearly distinguished: winter, spring, summer and autumn. Each season brings its own climatic features, to which animals adapt. The exhibition "Seasonal Changes in the Animal World" is divided into four parts, demonstrating how forest inhabitants live during each season.

The exhibition "Aquatic and Near-Aquatic Plants and Animals" immerses you in the world of Belarusian water bodies. It tells about the diversity of life that reigns in rivers, lakes and swamps: fish, birds, reptiles, insects, animals - they all found their home here. Bright dioramas demonstrate the life of the inhabitants of the lake depths, including beavers.

The forests of Belarus are a national treasure, occupying more than a third of the country's territory. The richness of forest ecosystems amazes with its diversity, so two halls of the museum are dedicated to them. Here you can see wood grouse and black grouse during mating games, hear their songs, and also get acquainted with the diversity of forest birds and mammals.

The hall "Rare species of flora and fauna. Protected areas" is dedicated to species that are under threat of extinction and listed in the Red Book of Belarus. Here you will find stuffed rare birds, such as the roller, the European bee-eater, the common kingfisher, and the bison. During the excursion, you can learn the history of the restoration of the population of this giant. Unfortunately, some animals presented in the museum have already disappeared from the wild, and you can only see them in the nature museum.

A visit to the museum is not just viewing exhibits, it is a meeting with the soul of nature. Here everyone will find something for themselves: someone will learn new facts, someone will admire the beauty of the surrounding world, and someone will simply relax their soul from the bustle of the city.
