Description
On the outskirts of the city of Mstislavl, a wooden church of the Transfiguration was built in the 19th century on the ancient cemetery. The uniqueness of this temple is that earlier most of the religious buildings were built of wood and only a few of such monuments remained in the Mogilev region. In addition, pre-revolutionary cemeteries also have historical value.

Mstislavl. Spaso - Transfiguration Church
If you are interested in the history of the wooden construction of Belarus, and if you are interested in the old cemetery, then you should visit the outskirts of Mstislavl on Engels Street. Here, in the middle of the pre-revolutionary cemetery, a wooden church of the Savior - the Transfiguration Church was built. The temple was built in the second half of the 19th century out of wood and is a monument of folk civilization. At the base of the temple is a four-part elongated axial composition and consists of rectangular log cabins: vestibule, nave, small prayer hall and apse.
A belfry is built above the entrance above the vestibule: a quadrangle with a tented roof. The main cube-shaped volume is topped by a hipped roof with a small drum and finished with a bulb. The main and two side entrances are decorated with four-column porches. The church is not always open, but only on religious holidays and on weekends, the priest comes. Several dozens of pre-revolutionary burials of Mstislavl townspeople, nobles and nobility have been preserved around the church. If you walk along the central avenue to the end of the cemetery, you will also see the burials of local Jews.
