Description

If we talk about the oldest place in Mozyr, then this is the Kenevichs estate. This building is a symbol of the history and culture of the city, as it is the oldest historical monument. The history of the palace begins in the early 18th century. At that time, the only private stone building in Mozyr was the Kenevich house. The Kenevich family estate in Doroshevichi is one of the oldest estates in Belarus.

The oldest building in Mozyr is the Kenevich Estate.

Kenevichi is an ancient, Polish, Catholic, gentry family. They were one of the richest landowners in the Mozyr region.

From a large family The Keneviches are best known for Felix Kenevich. It was he who started the construction of the estate in Doroshevichi and was the main owner of the estate in Mozyr. He was the leader of the uprising of the Polish gentry in Mozyr. After the suppression of the uprising, he fled Warsaw, then to Galicia and in 1833 to France. In 1832, his estate in Mozyr was confiscated in favor of the tsarist government. It was this fact that saved it from destruction.

Felix's brother, Jerome Kenevich, bought the estate in Doroshevichi and completed the construction of the estate, as well as laid out a park in which he built a family chapel - tomb.

The uniqueness of the estate in Mozyr lies not only in its age, but also in the fact that it has been preserved almost unchanged.

The Kenevich Manor is a classic example of the monumental architectural style of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The building is covered in red turquoise, has four towers and two wings that form an inner courtyard. Surprisingly, the building has never been rebuilt in its entire history.

In the manor you can see a beautiful palace complex consisting of a residence, a highway, a porch and a large park where guests can walk and enjoy the view of nature. A two-story house with French windows and an openwork canopy over the front door - it looks almost the same as in pre-revolutionary photographs from 1905. On the ground floor there is a passage to the courtyard. The walls of the second floor are decorated with a frieze. Today, the building looks very attractive because of its monumental appearance and good quality building material.

After the confiscation of the estate building in 1831, it was used for almost 200 years for the needs of education. In tsarist times, since 1859, a men's seventh-grade gymnasium was located there, which was transformed into a gymnasium in 1909. Since 1919, it has been the first Soviet co-educational school. During the Soviet period, it also had a pedagogical college. After the Patriotic War, one of the buildings was a boarding school, and later a sanatorium of the forest school. The Mozyr Center for Creativity of Children and Youth is now located in the building.

In Doroshkevich Park, the estate's planning structure was determined by three majestic entrance alleys crossing the gardens. The entrance was fixed by pylons with an iron gate, on both sides of which there were stables. Behind the round-shaped parterre, deep in the park, there was a two-story palace with a six-columned portico on the front and a four-window one on the east facade. The palace was rich in decoration, sculpture, had a library and an art gallery. Later, a similar palace for the owner's son was built on the same axis, connected by a gallery to the old palace. Behind the palaces on the banks of the Pripyat River was a flower garden, forming the foreground of a picturesque panorama. Then there was a park area of about 12 hectares.

To this day, the palace has not been preserved, only the park remains, but in a very modified state. In Soviet times, it was used as a holiday home estate. Since 1928, its territory has been occupied by the Pripyat River Flotilla, for which various buildings were built. At the same time, many old trees were cut down.

Despite this, Doroshkevich Park was recognized as a natural monument. Even with the losses and destruction that the park has undergone, it continues to be a very picturesque corner of Polesie and is characterized by colorful landscapes. There is a mass grave of the marines in the park. The Pripyat river flotilla and the partisans who died in these places during the Great Patriotic War.

The Kenevich Estate is a place of tourist excursions and historical routes and is of interest to people interested in the history of Belarus.
