Molodechno. Church of the Intercession.
The first church was built in 1600. In 1792, a description of the old Intercession Uniate Church has been preserved. The temple had three domes and a covered shingle roof. In the altar there was an icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary in silver Riga, as well as icons of St. Anthony and St. Onufriy. The parish consisted of about three thousand people. In 1847, the priest of the church stated that the church building itself was still strong, but the roof needed to be repaired. At the same time, the bell tower was built according to the fundus of the landowner Ratynsky. In 1837, the city was visited by Emperor Nicholas I, who donated 500 rubles to the church. After 1839, the union was banned and the church was handed over to Orthodox believers.
In Molodechno, in 1864, a teachers' seminary was opened, to which the heir to the throne of Russia, Tsarevich Alexander Alexandrovich, presented an icon with his own signature.
In 1865, the church committee decided to build a new stone church and 2 years later the laying of a new temple took place. This solemn event took place on July 27, 1867, and great celebrations were held in Molodechno on this occasion: a liturgy was held at the teachers' seminary, and then a procession went from there to the square where the foundation of the temple was laid. A wooden cross was installed on the site of the booth altar, which was decorated with a wreath of wildflowers. The honored guests, according to tradition, put a coin under the first stone. Among those present were the military, the chairman of the World Assembly, the chairman of the Vileika Entry Nobility and others. The church was built in 1871, and the old wooden one was dismantled and moved to the cemetery.
The temple was built in 1867-1871 according to a standard design. According to such projects, Orthodox churches were built throughout the Russian Empire. The church is a canonical four-part building of an Orthodox church in Russia: a vestibule with a bell tower, a refectory, the main volume of the prayer hall and a pentagonal apse with a sacristy. The bell tower is a three-tiered octagon on a quadrangle. An octagonal drum rises above the prayer hall, which is decorated with kokoshniks.
