Description
On June 1, 2014, the Alexei Kuzmich Art Gallery opened in the village of Mokhro in the Ivanovo region, the birthplace of the artist. The artist left a significant mark in the history of art, having created an impressive collection of paintings dedicated to the image of the Madonna, including the famous cycle "Crying Madonnas". In the images of earthly women who became Madonnas in his paintings, the master embodied the ideals of kindness, purity and beauty, which are symbols of the life and spiritual rebirth of Slavic culture.

An interesting attraction of the village of Mokhro is the art gallery of Alexei Kuzmich, who is called the Belarusian "Raphael".
Another local attraction of the village of Mokhro is the Alexei Kuzmich Art Gallery. Art historians call him the Belarusian "Raphael". His works are called light and clean, and his palette is sunny and peaceful. The artist always said that he was not looking for a theme for his work, she found it herself. And the theme is sublime portraits of women.
In the artist's homeland, in the village of Mokhro, the art gallery houses more than 50 works by the master. The works of the Belarusian Raphael are a unique combination of the beauty of an earthly woman with sublimity through the image of the Madonna. Kuzmich embodied the ideals of goodness, purity, symbols of life, and the rebirth of spirituality. His work is dominated by the image of the Madonna. The artist's paintings have characteristic features of icon imagery. The faces of his Madonnas embody a generalizing image of sublime feminine sensuality. The uniqueness of his work lies in the fact that he managed to combine the sacred and the secular. During all this time, the artist has painted more than a thousand female images. He created dozens of cycles: "Madonnas descended from heaven", "Golden Madonnas". There are especially many crying Madonnas - the sad Madonna of Kievan Rus, tears in the eyes of Ragneda and Euphrosyne of Polotsk.
Alexey Kuzmich is the author of psychological portraits of famous cultural and artistic figures of his time: S. Stanyuta, G. Makarova, actors V. Gostyukhin and N.Eremenko, film directors M. Ptashuk and V. Turov, writers V. Lipsky and Ya.Chechot. In the Ivanovo region, his work is not just known, his biography is studied in schools, they can talk for hours about their favorite paintings, and they are proud of their personal acquaintance with the painter. Easels, paints, brushes, a desktop... The artist's presence is felt in the gallery of his paintings. There are 50 unique canvases in a small area. In 2024, the museum was visited by 14.5 thousand people.
The locals are very proud of their village and its attractions. They are always happy to welcome guests and are very eager to tell them about their village, about these amazing Polessky places and about the history of their region.
