Mogilev region. Mstislavl. Church of the Jesuits of St. Michael
The architectural ensemble of the Jesuit monastery was built in the 18th and 19th centuries in the center of the city. Initially, the Jesuits appeared in Mstislav in 1616, and the King of the Republic Sigismund III founded a church and college for them. In 1707, the Belarusian architect Uladislav Diagilevich built a large wooden church, and then a Jesuit mission house, a wooden bell tower and outbuildings. And the brick church was built by the architect Benedikt Mezmer in 1748. A collegium and a pharmacy were built together with the church. The collegium had a music bursa and a library. One of the graduates of the collegium is Vincenty Michal Galinsky (1770 - 1831) - the provincial marshal of Mogilev. The collegium existed until 1820. The church and the collegium were handed over to the Orthodox, who opened a theological seminary. For some time in the 19th century, the rector of the seminary was Ivan Nasovich (1788 - 1877), a Belarusian linguist, folklorist and ethnographer. A few years ago, a commemorative sign was installed to I. Navsovich. And the church was rebuilt under the church of St. Nicholas. In Soviet times, the church housed a House of Culture for a certain period of time. Now the building is neglected. Restoration is underway.
