Description
The Assumption Cemetery in Mogilev is considered to be the oldest of those that have survived. They have been known since the beginning of the 17th century and are named after the Church of the Assumption, which was located not far from the cemetery on the bank of the Dnieper. A chapel and a number of pre-revolutionary burials of famous Mogilev figures have been preserved at the cemetery. There is also the oldest tombstone in the city.

Mogilev. Assumption Cemetery.
The most ancient cemetery of the city of Mogilev is located on Chelyuskintsev street, the former Bykhovsky tract. They were founded in the 17th century, and according to some sources in the 16th century, and were named after the Church of the Assumption, which was located across the road near the Dnieper and was demolished after the war in the 1950s. In the 1990s, the oldest tombstone in Mogilev with an image of a coat of arms was discovered at the Assumption Cemetery, which dates back to the 16th-17th centuries and researchers believe that it belonged to a representative of the Volovich family. Most of the burials date from the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, a family chapel was built on the left side of the central avenue - the tomb of Klentze. Among the preserved burials is the necropolis of the famous noble family of Gartynski. Famous residents of Mogilev who found their last refuge at the Assumption Cemetery: the Prasolny brothers, who had their own photo studio in Mogilev; Mykolai Gartynskyi – historian and local historian; the provincial postmaster Kuzma Karitsky and many others. On the central avenue of the cemetery, the ancient cobblestones are still preserved. There are also several ancient trees.
