Mogilev. Evdokim Romanov Regional Museum of Local Lore

In the historical center of Mogilev, on the former Shopping Square, and now Glory Square, there is the most important museum in the Mogilev region - the Mogilev Regional Museum named after Evdokim Romanov. There are many museums in the city center, but this museum is older in Mogilev. And bears the name of the outstanding Belarusian historian, folklorist, archaeologist and public figure Evdokim Romanovich Romanov (1855-1922). Romanov conducted archaeological excavations in the Mogilev province, headed the department of the unofficial part in the newspaper "Mogilev Provincial Vedomosti ", local history collections were published under his editorship"Mogilev antiquity".

The museum was founded in 1867. Initially, the exposition was located in the building of the former Anthony's Church and the Bernardine monastery, and then in the building on Lenin Street. After the war, the museum was moved to a building on the Square of Glory. This building also has a long history and was erected in the second half of the 18th century, when Mogilev became the center of Mogilev province.

The modern exposition was created in the museum in 1990 – 1997. The museum's collections number more than 130 thousand exhibits. The museum consists of 4 expositions, which are located in 18 halls. There are unique exhibits from all over the Mogilev region: a birch bark letter from the 13th century from the city of Mstislavl, a collection of weapons from the 14th – 20th century, books from Mogilev printing houses, a collection of ancient icons and numismatics.

The museum has a branch on the Theater Square-the museum of ethnography "lands of the native circle" and "Mogilev Gubernsky".
