Mogilev. Jewish Vocational School

In 1899, a vocational school was opened in Mogilev at the Jewish Talmud Torah school. In this educational institution, boys were taught carpentry, turning and metalsmithing crafts. Since 1903, a reorganization took place and a Jewish vocational school was founded, for which a separate complex of buildings was built in another area of Mogilev near the Boriso-Gleb Church. Z. Kagan financed most of the funds, and engineer Moses Solomonovich Shmerling financed the purchase of equipment.

On November 30, 1903, the grand opening of the school took place, the main building of which was built at the intersection of Belgorod and Gleb–Borisovskaya streets, these are modern Vorovsky and Plekhanov streets. The opening was attended by the Governor of Mogilev province Nikolai Klingenberg. A choir from the Talmud Torah performed, and the hymn "Kol is Glorious" was first performed, followed by psalms in Hebrew. The head of the Jewish school was Hirsh Kagan.

The educational institution trained specialists in wood and metal processing. In 1909, one of the 26 Baku Commissars, Meer Basin, graduated from the college, about which a commemorative plaque was installed.

Now the Mogilev State Engineering College is operating in the building, which has 600 students. There is a museum of local lore in the building.

The building of the vocational school is made of stone and red brick. Two-storey building on a high basement. It was built in the Art Nouveau style. The first floor is decorated with rustication. An architectural monument of national importance.
