Mogilev. The house of the city council.

There are several ancient buildings on Mogilev's Glory Square. Previously, the square was called the Trading Square during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and during the time of the Russian Empire, the Governor's Square. Many historical buildings have not survived to our time. But to the left of the town hall, the building of the former city council has been preserved.

The building was originally adapted to serve as a shopping mall, and it is possible that the house was built in the 18th century, and in the 19th century, during the Russian Empire, it was rebuilt in the classical and pseudo-Russian style. A third floor was added. During the First World War, when the Headquarters of the Supreme Commander of the Russian Army was in Mogilev, there were headquarters facilities and a canteen in this house. This house was visited by Emperor Nicholas II of the Russian Empire.

After the revolution, the building was a cultural center for soldiers of the Red Army. Meetings with Belarusian writers were held in the building during the period of Belarusization in the 1920s. During the Nazi occupation, the building housed a cultural center for Wehrmacht soldiers.

After the war, the building was restored, and the Stroytrest No. 12 House of Culture worked here. After the collapse of the USSR, the monument was restored and converted into a city registry office.
