Minsk. The Basilian Convent.

In the historical center of Minsk, near Freedom Square, there is a building of the monastery of the Basilians of the Holy Spirit. The monastery was founded in 1641 on the Upper Market. The funds for the shrine were provided by Uniate Metropolitan Anthony Selyava. The first abbess Ekaterina Sapieha also donated 9 thousand zlotys to the monastery.

At first, the monastery was located in residential buildings on the market, which were bought from the residents, and the monastery building was built by 1650. Basements and walls of old buildings were used during the construction. The U-shaped stone and two-storey monastery building had a hip roof and was covered with tiles. In addition to the monastery cells, the interior had a kitchen, refectory, guest rooms and other rooms.

The building of the Basilian monastery, where a men's gymnasium operated during the Russian Empire, was built nearby. And the Uniate Church of the Holy Spirit was built near the monastery, which was demolished in Soviet times and rebuilt several years ago near the town hall.

After the partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Basilian monastery was closed in 1795 during the Russian Empire. The building was transferred to the Orthodox Peter and Paul Monastery. Since 1799, the building has been occupied by the Orthodox consistory. Then the monastery complex was transferred to the Peter and Paul Orthodox Cathedral.

After the revolution, the monastery had residential apartments. In 1995, the building was restored, and now there is a children's music school named after composer Evgeny Glebov.
