Minsk. Tsoi's wall.
Landmark
Minsk, Leninsky district, Lyakhovsky square
Description
Tsoi's wall in Minsk is a legendary place in Lyakhovsky Square (Pervomaiskaya metro station), where generations of fans come. It all started in 1990 as a spontaneous memorial at a construction site, and today it is an art object with quotes from songs and copies of drawings by the musician himself. Guitars are played here, candles are lit on June 21 and August 15, and ARWALL technology brings images to life via a smartphone. A space where the lines of songs come to life and I want to believe: Tsoi is alive.

The black and white heart of the capital: a walk to Tsoi's Wall in Minsk
Minsk, a city with neat avenues and majestic architecture, has special points of attraction that are not found in official tourist booklets. They live their lives, breathe music and memory. One of these places is the Viktor Tsoi Wall. This is not just a concrete fence, but a real cultural artifact, the voice of a generation frozen in graffiti and poetry.
Where to look for the legend.
The wall is hidden in a cozy Lyakhovsky Park, in the heart of the Leninsky district. The landmark is the beginning of Oktyabrskaya Street, not far from the ever-hurrying lobby of the Pervomaiskaya metro station.
It's easier to get here: get on the subway and get off at Pervomaiskaya station (red line). From there, it's just a couple of minutes on foot. If you prefer land transport, focus on the stops "Lyakhovsky Square" or "Oktyabrskaya". For those who like accuracy, here are the coordinates for the navigator: 53.8936, 27.5625. You will immediately realize that you have come correctly: the gray slabs, completely covered with colorful inscriptions, look like a contrasting spot against the background of the greenery of the square.
From a spontaneous memorial to an official place of power.
The history of this place is tragic and romantic at the same time. In August 1990, when the news of Tsoi's death spread like lightning across the country, "Kino" fans were looking for a place to express their pain. The concrete slabs that enclosed the grandiose construction site of the Palace of the Republic became such a place. Flowers, candles, and then markers and paint were brought here, as if to a national altar. The plates were covered with quotes from songs and simply - "Tsoi is alive."
The construction was completed, the Palace of the Republic was opened, but the wall remained. The city grew and changed, and in 1997, when it was the turn of the reconstruction of the square, the concrete slabs were not sent to the landfill, but carefully moved to Internatsionalnaya Street. And in 2012, the wall found its current, perhaps the most harmonious haven - in a quiet Lyakhovsky square.
Today it's not just a fence. This is a full-fledged art object. If you look at the back, you can see copies of Viktor Tsoi's own drawings - austere, graphic, made in his unique style.
A living monument.
Tsoi's wall in Minsk connects the epochs in an amazing way. There is a special atmosphere here. Older men, whose youth fell at the end of the 80s, silently stare at familiar lines. Students with guitars, trying out the chords of "A Star named the Sun". Couples in love who leave little hearts next to their idol's name as a souvenir.
The highlight of the life of this place comes twice a year.
On June 21, Viktor Tsoi's birthday, the square is filled with voices. Hundreds of people come here to sing his songs to the guitar, listen to his poems and just be together, feeling unity through the decades. The atmosphere of the late 80s is coming to life with renewed vigor, proving that Tsoi's work is not a museum exhibit, but a living tradition.
The second important date is August 15th, the musician's memorial day. On this day, flowers are brought here and candles are lit.
A new breath of the old wall.
Time does not stand still, and in 2021 the wall gained a "digital soul". Thanks to the ARWALL augmented reality project, it has become interactive. It is enough to point the smartphone camera at special tags, and the images will come to life: you will see animated photos, and the same voice and guitar riffs will sound from the speakers of your phone. It's an amazing feeling to touch history and literally see it come to life before your eyes.
Part of a large memory map.
The Minsk wall is an important point on the memory map of Viktor Tsoi, but it is far from the only one. Similar memorials, which arise spontaneously or are created by grateful fans, can be found in Moscow on Arbat, in the St. Petersburg club-museum "Kamchatka", in Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod and even in the distant Crimean village of Morskoe, where the last days of the musician's life were spent.
But for Minsk residents and guests of the capital, this wall in Lyakhovsky Square has become their own, native.
Tsoi's wall in Minsk is not just a landmark. This is a place where you can stop in the hustle and bustle of the city, reflect on the eternal, recall the lines that once turned your soul upside down, and whisper: "Tsoi is alive." And by coming here, we make him immortal ourselves.
