Description
The ancient castle in Minsk has not been preserved, but there is a castle - a prison, the so-called Pishchalovsky Castle. The building was built at the beginning of the 19th century and during its two-century history was always used for its direct purpose - exclusively as a prison. The name of the prison came from the landowner R. Pishchala. Many famous figures and writers were kept within the walls of the prison.

Minsk. Pishchalovsky Castle.
Pishchalovsky Castle was built in 1825, as noted by the researchers, in a retrospective - castle style with elements of classicism. It was built on an elevation, on a mountain in the Romanov suburb, which at that time was the edge of Minsk. The architect was Mikhail Chakhovsky, and the construction contractor was Rudolph Pischala, after whom the prison was named. Among the prisoners of the prison were many famous public and political figures, writers and poets, including participants of the uprisings of 1830-1831 and 1863-1864. Playwright Vincent Dunin-Martsinkevich, poets Karus Kaganets and Ales Harun, People's Poet of Belarus Yakub Kolas sat here, and in 1906, Ivan Pulikhov, a revolutionary who made an unsuccessful attempt on the Minsk governor Kurlav, was hanged at the gates of the castle. The prison building is a three-story rectangular building with four round towers at the corners of the building. The towers of the castle are decorated with niches and finished with profiled teeth. The prison is surrounded by a brick wall, which is strengthened by buttresses. In the 19th century, there was a pharmacy, workshops, a school and a church on the territory of the castle.
