The Carriage exposition.
In the Museum, you can get acquainted with the history of transport used by Minsk residents during the provincial period. Basically, these are different types of vehicles that were powered by animals. The carriage exhibition occupies one hall and is represented by authentic objects of the past centuries. Various carriages are available for close inspection, some elements are placed under glass. Antique carriages, sleighs, and carriages from the 19th and 20th centuries are collected here. The exhibition includes both luxurious carriages for the nobility and simple carriages for everyday life.
A guided tour of the exhibition is a journey through the era to which certain exhibits belong. There are huge carriages, bulky stagecoaches, antique sleighs and carts. The museum has a modern interactive kiosk that can answer any questions, showcase the originals of official documents and private announcements related to the production, operation and cost of vehicles of that era.
The interactive guide allows you to try yourself as a carriage master, with the help of a fun interactive game "Assemble a carriage". The museum is showing a small but very realistic 3D film about the use of horse-drawn vehicles in Minsk in the middle of the 19th century, which cannot be found on the Internet, as it was commissioned by the museum and can only be seen on its territory.
The carriage history of Minsk dates back to 1863. Even then, a certain L. J. Leibman was engaged in the provision of services for the repair of wheels and carriages. The main hall of the museum is elongated, so most of the exhibits are placed in the showcases and on the walls (horseshoes, clamps, wheels). The transport itself is displayed on both sides of the hall, which makes it possible to examine even the smallest details. The carriages that have been restored and cleaned look fit to ride.
Among the interesting exhibits of the museum is a stroller, a fashionable vehicle, which was operated by the owner himself, without a coachman. The townspeople used it for walks outside the city and in the park. The nobleman's chaise also attracts attention. It stands out from the rest of the transport by special devices against dirt. In the museum, you can also find out what behavioral features modern taxi drivers have adopted from cab drivers and how women's dress influenced the design of wheeled vehicles, for how much money it was possible to purchase a British "egoist" and how the quality of German convertibles differed from other manufacturers even then.
In the Carriage Museum, you can hear the sounds of a city street at the end of the 19th century, which helps to recreate and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the past.
A visit to this unusual and informative Museum will be interesting for both adults and children.
