Description
Each temple has its own unique history. The majestic Orthodox church in the village of Milkovshchyna in the Grodno region, near the small town of Skidel, is no exception. The garrison church in St. Petersburg became a model for the church project. The most beautiful temple in the Milkov region was built in a very short time - in just two years. The temple is a monument of the third category of value, included in the State List of Historical and Cultural values.

The Orthodox church, built in the early 20th century in an eclectic style with elements of the historical Russian style.
The temple was built in 1908. The initiator of its construction was our countryman, a nobleman of the Minsk province, Lieutenant General of His Imperial Majesty, Konstantin Antonovich Shirma. The combat general decided to leave the memory of himself not only as a soldier, but also as a faithful son of the Mother Church. The construction of a capital-style architectural structure in the province was a very difficult task. The temple was built of red face brick, which was made from local clays. Its quality was unique, but unfortunately the description of the manufacturing technology has not been preserved. Unprecedented spiritual enthusiasm allowed the consecration of a new church in honor of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in July 1909.
The church was built in an eclectic style with elements of the historical Russian style. It is a single-nave temple with a hexagonal asp. Above the entrance is an octagonal two-tiered belfry topped with a tent with a bulbous head. The temple is completed with a dome and four small onion-shaped heads. In addition to the central entrance and the entrance to the narthex, there are two more side ones symmetrically located in the wings. The facade is decorated with original ornate kokoshniks, pilasters, cornices, belts, panels of figured bricks and other elements typical of traditional Russian architecture of the late 19th - early 20th century.
The iconostasis was originally created in accordance with the designs of icons and wood carvings in various elements of the interior, making up a magnificent ensemble. In addition to the common images, there were very rare ones in the iconographic series. The wealthy local Mozolevsky family showed a lot in the beautification of the temple, which presented an iconostasis with beautiful oak carvings and a number of valuable icons.
The temple survived two wars, but was closed during the Khrushchev persecution. The temple building was turned into a granary with a mill and was very badly damaged. All the decorations of the temple were taken to the neighboring functioning temple.
In 1995, the building was given the status of historical and cultural value. Restoration work began, and in 1999 the preserved iconostasis and the most valuable icons, the altar cross with holy relics, were completely returned. The rite of consecration was performed on March 4, 2000.
For fans of the airy-fairy-tale Orthodox architecture, the Church of the Intercession The Blessed Virgin Mary in the village of Milkovshchina will be a real surprise and delight. This is a place where the soul lives, where there are no indifferent people and everything is permeated with love for Holy Places.
