Mikashevichi. St. John the Baptist Church.
In the town of Mikashevichi, Luninets district, there is an Orthodox church of the Nativity of John the Baptist in the city center. Originally, this church belonged to the Catholic Church, which was built during the Polish state in 1936.
After the Riga Peace of 1921, the Mikashevichi were under Polish rule until 1939. In 1927, Bishop Zygmunt Lozinsky of Pinsk founded a Catholic parish in the village and a Committee for the construction of a church was organized. The land for the shrine was donated by a plywood and timber mill, as well as a patron Ogarkov, who owned a large estate.
Architects and engineers Przybysławski, Poleski and Piotr Cherniewski designed an interesting church layout in the Neo-Romanesque and Neo-Gothic styles. Zygmunt Baranovsky took over financial matters, and priest Velichko Bronislav was appointed to Mikashevichi.
Completely different people donated to the church, Catholics and Orthodox, workers and industrialists. Kostya-Bernatsky donated 3,200 zlotys from the Polessky voivode, Kazimir Bukraba 1,000 zlotys... Some lent their horses to transport construction materials.
In 1935, the foundation of the church was laid, and a year later a temple was erected in honor of the Mother of God Queen. In October 1936, the church was consecrated. Z. Baranovsky was awarded the Papal Cross.
In Soviet times, the church was closed and a club was opened here, and then a furniture store. At the end of the USSR's existence in 1990, Orthodox believers purchased this building and rebuilt it as an Orthodox church.
