St. Elijah's Church is an architectural monument of the retrospective Russian style.
The Church of St. Elijah, built in 1876, is a striking example of the retrospective Russian style that dominated the iconic architecture of Belarus at that time.
The temple, made of brick in the shape of a cross, is distinguished by characteristic decorative elements such as bulbous domes, arched belts and crowns, which gives it a unique appearance. The architectural composition of the church consists of four parts: a two-tiered belfry (eight by four), a short refectory, a cuboid prayer hall and an apse. The tent coverings of the belfry and prayer hall are decorated with poppies, and the facades are decorated with rectangular window openings, arched friezes and corner blades, which creates a harmonious combination of shapes and details.
The fate of St. Elijah's Church in Mikhailovshchina was not easy: During the Second World War, the church was damaged and was not used for worship for a long time. After that, services resumed in the church and were held until 1958, after which the church was closed by the Soviet government and converted into a warehouse.
Only in 1993, after the church was returned to the faithful, restoration work and restoration of the temple began with the support of the local collective farm. This allowed this architectural monument to regain its historical significance and function. In the same year, it was consecrated in honor of St. Elijah.
