Here the earth remembers the feat: the memorial complex in honor of the Hero of the USSR Vasily Chebotarev
In the very heart of Belarus, in Krupki lands, among the picturesque fields and woods of the Minsk region, there is a place where time seems to have stopped. The Memorial Complex–Museum in memory of Hero of the Soviet Union Vasily Mikhailovich Chebotarev is located at the frontier, which became the scene of one of the most dramatic episodes of the summer of 1944. This place is not just a tribute to the past, it is a living witness to fierce battles, where the fate of not only an individual bridgehead, but also the entire strategic offensive was decided.
The immortal feat at the ferry.
In June 1944, Soviet troops began implementing the grand plan of Operation "Bagration", an operation to liberate Belarus. The Krupki district found itself in the epicenter of a rapid offensive. It was here, on the outskirts of the strategically important Bobr River crossing, that the battalion commander of the 212th Infantry Regiment of the 49th Division, Captain Vasily Mikhailovich Chebotarev, made his last stand.
The unit faced a critical task: to capture and hold the crossing, ensuring the unhindered advance of the main forces of the Red Army to the west. Realizing that the score was running out in minutes, and the enemy was putting up desperate resistance, Chebotarev led the fighters behind him. In the midst of this unequal battle, when every minute of delay could cost the success of the entire operation, the officer died a brave death. However, the task was completed - the crossing remained with our troops.
At the cost of his own life, Vasily Mikhailovich Chebotarev provided a "green street" for the advancing units. For this feat, his courage and heroism, he was awarded the Motherland's highest award, the title Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously).
Memory architecture.
Today, the place where that legendary battle took place is a carefully landscaped memorial complex. The majestic monument to the Hero occupies the central place. Next to it stands a strict obelisk, reminding of the scale of losses and the greatness of Victory.
However, the uniqueness of this open-air museum lies in its maximum historical authenticity. The creators of the complex tried to recreate the atmosphere of the hard times of war. On the territory there are:
· Alley of Military equipment: here are samples of weapons and combat vehicles typical of the period of the Great Patriotic War. Looking at these exhibits, you begin to better understand what kind of power and steel stood behind the liberator soldiers.
· Reconstructed fortifications: visitors can see with their own eyes the conditions in which the fighters fought. The defense line includes full-profile trenches, anti-tank trenches and dugouts. This allows you to experience the harsh reality of frontline life.
· Observation tower: the panorama of the area opens from the height. Looking at the bend of the Bobr River and the expanses around it, you understand the strategic importance of this frontier and how difficult it was to storm it.
How to find it.
The memorial complex is located in the Krupki district of the Minsk region, on the territory of the Bobr village Council. This place will become an important point for everyone who is interested in military history, who wants to touch the chronicle of Operation "Bagration" and honor the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of Belarus.
The memory of Vasily Mikhailovich Chebotarev and his fighters is alive. It is not in granite or metal, but in our gratitude, in the well-tended land of the memorial and in the silence that stands here instead of the roar of the cannonade. Come and worship the feat of the victorious generation.
