Memorial of Military Glory "Ludchitskaya Height"
Ludchitska Heights is a site of fierce battles, where Soviet troops demonstrated exceptional courage and heroism in February-June 1944. During the Bobruisk offensive operation aimed at encircling and destroying the German group, the 556th Rifle Regiment of the 169th Division of the 3rd Army was tasked with conducting reconnaissance in force in the area of the village of Ludchitsy. On the night of June 24, 1944, two detachments under the command of Senior Lieutenant Vladimir Martynov and Captain Gulyam Yakubov broke through the enemy defenses and captured the dominant height of 150.9.
During the battle on the heights, more than 400 German soldiers were killed, and the heroic defenders, fighting to the last bullet, showed exceptional courage. Senior Lieutenant Martynov, Captain Yakubov and Private Sundutkali Iskaliyev, at the cost of their lives, stopped the enemy pillbox. For the courage and heroism shown in battle, they were all awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously).
Two more - Ivan Borisevich and Galaktion Razmadze - distinguished themselves in the battles for the Dnieper and the liberation of Bykhov. All these heroes are examples of the selflessness and spirit of our people, who, despite their nationality, united in the fight for freedom.
In memory of the heroes' feat, the Memorial of Military Glory "Ludchitskaya Height" was opened in the village of Ludchitsy on June 28, 1984. It immortalized the feat of the soldiers of the 556th Rifle Regiment of the 169th Division, who fought for the liberation of their native land.
