Mazolovo. Monastery.
If you go to Mstislavl via Chausy, 10 kilometers from the city of Mstislavl, you will see a tall brick temple on the hill - this is the Church of the Holy Ascension. According to written sources, the first monastery in Mazolovo was founded in the 14th century by the legendary Mstislavl Prince Semyon Lugvenii, the son of Grand Duke Olgerd of Lithuania. In 1665, the monastery was significantly expanded thanks to the donations of Mariana Sukhodolskaya, the daughter of the Mstislavl table-master Nikolai Sukhodolsky.
At the beginning of the 18th century, the monastery passed to the Uniates. And at the end of the 18th century, he switched to the Orthodox again. Two parochial schools for boys and girls worked at the monastery. In 1799, the Church of the Holy Ascension was built with the money of Countess Chernysheva. And in 1827-1832, the church was rebuilt according to the project of the architect A.I. Melnikova. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were about 80 nuns in the monastery. The monastery was closed in the 1920s and a village council and a kindergarten were opened in the buildings. Over time, churches and farm buildings fell into disrepair.
In recent years, the brick church of the Holy Ascension has been renovated and now functions as an Orthodox church.
The church is built in the style of classicism and is a cruciform temple with a semicircular apse. The vertical dominant is the four-story tower - the belfry.
