Description

In the town of Malaya Berestovitsa on the central street there are two pre-revolutionary buildings: the Catholic Church of St. Anthony of Padua and the Orthodox Church of Dmitry Solunsky.

The first wooden church was built back in the days of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania by the magnates Khodkevichi and Soltan. And the stone church of Anthony of Padua was built in the 19th century on the foundation of the new owners of the town of Volkovysky's. The church then passed to the Orthodox and was rebuilt in a pseudo-Russian style. The Church is active.

Malaya Berestovitsa. The Church of Anthony of Padua.

In the Berestovitsky district there is a Bolshaya (Big) Berestovitsa and a Malaya (Small) Berestovitsa. Each of the towns has a long history and is interesting in its own way.

Malaya Berestovitsa has been known since the 16th century. At first it belonged to the Khodkevich magnates, then to the Soltans and the Volkovyssky family. In the 17th century, the Khodkevichi built the first wooden church in the village. A new Catholic church was built at Soltan in the 18th century. And only in the 19th century, with the money of A. Volkovyssky, a stone church was built.

The building was built of brick in the period from 1851 to 1863. a few years later, the church was closed after the anti-Russian uprising led by K. Kalinovsky. A six-pound bell was removed from the bell tower of the church, which was handed over to the Orthodox church that was nearby.

In 1868, the famous Belarusian artist and composer Napoleon Orda visited the town of Malaya Berestovitsa and left an image depicting a church and a church. Already in Polish times, at the beginning of the 20th century, the church was returned to Catholic believers.

The building was built in pseudo-Russian style and is a rectangular volume in plan, which is covered with a gable roof. A bell tower is built over the main facade. The church building is set on a granite plinth.
