Lovchitsy. Mosque.

There is a wooden mosque in Lovchitsy, Novogrudok district. To get to the place, you need to go from Novogrudok to Berezovka and turn left to Katolyshi and Lovchitsy. The temple is located on a hill in the local Tatar cemetery. To approach the temple, it is necessary to climb the steps to the hill.

The mosque in Lovchitsy is considered one of the oldest in Belarus and was founded in 1420. According to some other sources, the first mosque was built here sometime in the 1530s, when Prince Murtaza Bogatyrevich owned the town. In the 18th century, the position of mullah in Lovchitsy was inherited by the Asanovich family.

In Soviet times, the mosque was not used and the building fell into disrepair.

The monument was repaired a few years ago. The roof was changed. The temple building is wooden, rectangular in plan, which is covered with a hip roof. Near the monument on the hill is the Mizar, a Muslim Tatar cemetery.

Researchers believe that the oldest burials in the local cemetery date back to the 16th century. There are many tombstones with the image of a crescent moon. And now there are also burials of Muslims here, and inscriptions on some tombstones are made in Russian and Arabic. The local cemetery for Muslims of Belarus is a place of pilgrimage.
