Description

In the very heart of Lida, in the park, stands the Hill of Immortality. Its creation began on Victory Day, May 9, 1966. As a result, a five-sided pyramid hill was formed, reaching 7 meters in height. Soon, in 1967, the grave of a soldier, whose name remained unknown, was moved to him...
From that moment on, the Hill of Immortality became the main place of memory and veneration of the fallen during the Great Patriotic War. In 1974, the architectural ensemble was complemented by steel pylons installed at an angle, which represent artillery guns.

The Mound of Immortality in Lida is a memorial created in honor of the soldiers and partisans who died in July 1944 during the liberation of the city.

On May 9, 1966, the laying of the Burial Mound of Immortality began in Lida. The work continued until July 8 of the same year, when the grand opening of this significant memorial took place.

The Mound of Immortality was created in honor of the soldiers and partisans who died in July 1944 during the liberation of the city from the Nazi invaders, as well as in memory of the civilians who became victims of the war.

On the opening day, a capsule with a message to posterity was placed at the base of the mound, which contained newspaper articles, photographs of the city, and even the key to Lida. This box was opened on May 9, 1995, after which a new message was placed in it, which will be opened in 2045.

The mound is a pentahedral pyramid 7 meters high with a base perimeter of 55 meters. In 1973, according to a project by a group of architects led by Yu.N. Trakhtenberg, the composition was complemented by pylons — tilted steel structures 14 meters high, symbolizing the barrels of artillery guns and recalling the terrible days of the war.

At the foot of the Mound is the grave of an Unknown Soldier, whose remains were found in the village of Chekhovtsy and buried here on May 9, 1967. On the same day, a torch lit from the Eternal Flame in Minsk was delivered to the memorial, and trees were planted that formed the surrounding park.

The words "Contemporaries and descendants! Through the centuries, through the years, remember! About those who will never come again, remember!". These words call for the eternal memory of those who gave their lives for freedom and peace. The ground for the Mound was brought from all over Belarus, including hero cities and places of fierce battles, which makes this memorial a symbol of unity and memory of the people.
