Description

Not far from the village of Levki, Orsha district, in 1945, a branch of the literary museum was opened in the Vitebsk region, which is dedicated to the life and work of the outstanding Belarusian poet Yanka Kupala. It is open in this place for a reason - from 1935 to 1941 the poet’s summer house was located here, where he loved to spend time with his family and friends, and continued to actively write his works. In 1978, the Kupala Memorial Reserve “Levki” was opened here.

Memorial Reserve "Levki"

At the entrance to the museum complex there is an information stand with a map of the reserve.

It is worth noting that Levki is a wonderful picturesque area with incredible nature. On a high hill near the bank of the Dnieper, among the spreading branches of ancient pines and birches, there is a museum - the dacha of Y. Kupala. In the halls of the museum there are exhibitions that introduce us to the life and work of the poet. They present visitors with the poet’s personal belongings and documents and fully display the interior of his beloved country house. At every step we encounter the poet’s books, publications from different years, letters and photographs with friends and family, portraits of Ya Kupala, as well as various documentary materials about the poet’s meetings with colleagues - Yakub Kolas, Petrus Brovka, Kuzma Cherny.

A special and unusual exhibition is a multimedia showcase in the form of a window, looking through which you can see a garden where the poet himself slowly walks to the songs of birds...

On the territory of the museum complex we encounter a number of outbuildings, a forestry building, a driver’s house, and a garage. In the garage there is a Chevrolet car, once gifted to the writer by the leadership of the BSSR. The monument to Y. Kupala, erected on his 100th anniversary, attracts attention. He is depicted sitting on a bench and anyone can sit next to him to take a memorable photo or just relax, admiring nature.

A wooden staircase located nearby leads to the picturesque bank of the Dnieper, where the poet loved to spend his time.

Every year, concerts, literary evenings and festive events are held here on the eve of the poet’s birthday.
