Description

The town of Leonpol in the Miory district has been considered the main ancestral residence of the Lopatinskys since the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. They founded a stone palace and a manor house with a park here.

In the middle of the 18th century, the Lopatinskys built a wooden Uniate church in the middle of the village. The temple was two-towered with Baroque elements. In the 19th century, the church moved from Uniates to Orthodox believers. The temple was rebuilt according to Orthodox canons: the towers were dismantled and a drum with an onion was installed. The church is active.

Leonpol. Trinity Church.

At first, the place Leonpol in the Miory district was called ... Churilovichi, was renamed in honor of its owner Leon Lopatinsky. His son Nikolai Tadeusz built a palace with an estate here and at first it was assumed that it would be a summer residence. And it turned out that this became the main family estate and the family archive and collection of paintings were moved here.

In 1782, according to the Lopatinsky foundation, a church belonging to the Uniates was built in Leonpole. The church was wooden with two towers, which were four-sided, covered with a four-pitched spire. At the entrance to the temple there is a canopy on four pillars.

After the prohibition of Uniatism on our lands in 1839, uniates began to be converted to the Orthodox faith. Some did not want to convert to Orthodoxy and conflict situations arose. The same story happened in Leonpole. In 1841, local peasants refused to convert to Orthodoxy and, at the call of a local Orthodox priest, a detachment of soldiers arrived in Leonpol to pacify the recalcitrant uniats. After this local riot, the Trinity Church was transferred to the Orthodox Church.

After the church passed to the Orthodox, the building was rebuilt. Two towers from the facade were dismantled and a light drum with an onion was installed. The church is considered an architectural monument of folk architecture with Baroque features. The interior has preserved sculptures from the 18th century and icons from the 18th – 19th centuries.
