Lemeshevichi. Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God.
The town of Lemeshevichi, Pinsk district, is located near the Pripyat river, 15 kilometers southeast of the district center. Previously, there were impassable swamps and forests around here, but now many swamps have been drained and there are many reclamation channels around the town. There are several archaeological sites in the vicinity of Lemeshevichi, including a site from the 5th to 3rd millennia BC. This testifies to the antiquity of these places.
During the time of the Russian Empire, the town was the center of the Pinsk district of the Minsk province. After the Peace of Riga during the Polish state, Lemeshevichi became the center of the Pinsk district municipality in the 1920s and 1930s.
The wooden Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God has been preserved to this day. The church was first mentioned in Lemeshevichi during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1564, which was consecrated in honor of the Holy Trinity. The sponsors of the stone temple were the local gentry family Lemeshevichi. According to some sources, it belonged to Uniate believers.
According to historical sources, the first wooden church was built in 1681. When the Trinity Church burned down, a new church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built. A new wooden church was built in 1810 at the expense of parishioners, but it has not been preserved. The new Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God was built in 1872-1881, and according to some sources in 1893. During the Great Patriotic War, the church was severely damaged, but then restored.
The building was built in the traditions of folk architecture with elements of pseudo–Russian style designed by architect Voikovich. The temple consists of 4 main parts: the vestibule, the refectory. Prayer hall and apse. The interior features an iconostasis with a unique 18th-century royal straw gate.
