The manor of Zavishey "Kukhtich" in Pervomaisk

In the village of Pervomaisk, there was once a manor and park ensemble "Kukhtich" of the ancient noble family of the Zavishes. The main building consisted of a central building and two side wings, with outbuildings such as barns, stables, and a watermill located nearby.

In the central part of the estate there was a ballroom with high windows, where the guests first came. The interiors were decorated with stucco and antique furniture. The manor was built in the first half of the 19th century, possibly designed by architect Karl Spampani.

Unfortunately, the main building has not been preserved. Today, only the side wings and some outbuildings, such as the old stable, can be seen in Pervomaisk. The dilapidated mill is impressive, resembling the ruins of an ancient castle. The right wing is closed and is gradually being demolished, while the left wing has long been used as an apartment building.

Historically, Kukhtich was famous for the fact that the first catechism in the Old Belarusian language was printed here.

In the 70s, a vocational school was located on the territory of the estate.

A small tractor museum was opened next to the left wing in 2020. Of the former manor buildings here, you can see a mill resembling the ruins of an ancient castle; a partially rebuilt stable building; the building of the Calvinist cathedral, which later became a tomb.

Today, the manor complex is protected as an object of cultural heritage, although the condition of its construction is alarming.

Kukhtichi. Zawisza estate.

The town of Kukhtichi, now the village of Pervomaysk, is now known for its school of agricultural mechanization. And earlier, one of the most famous estates in Belarus was located here, the owner of which was Magdalena Radziwill from the Zawisza family, bearing the "Swan" coat of arms.

The estate and park architectural complex was formed in the 19th century in the classical style. The estate included many buildings and a park: a palace with two wings, a chapel-tomb and outbuildings.

The palace was one-story, located in the middle of a park. Linden trees grew around the building. The palace had a U-shape in plan and consisted of three parts. The interior of the building was decorated with stucco and decor, there was expensive antique furniture and a collection of works of art. There was a rich archive of ancient documents. There was also a greenhouse.

Two wings have survived to this day. These are single-story stone buildings made of rubble stone. The entrance is designed as a Doric portico with a triangular pediment. A little to the side of the wing, a 16th-century Calvinist church building has been preserved, which was later converted into a church and used as a chapel-tomb. M. Radziwill's husband, Nikolai Radziwill, is buried in the chapel. The chapel is currently undergoing restoration.

Magdalena Radziwill (1861-1945) was a famous Belarusian public figure and philanthropist. She supported many Belarusian writers and poets. With her help, the first books of Maxim Bogdanovich, Konstanciya Bujlo and Maxim Goretsky were published. Anton and Ivan Lutskevich, Alexander Vlasov and many other figures came to visit her in Kukhtichi. M. Radziwill died in exile in Switzerland. Several years ago, her ashes were transferred to Belarus, to the city of Minsk.
