Kostyukovichi. Kostyukovichi Museum of Local Lore
Until the beginning of the 16th century, Kostyukovichi was a little-known small village in the world. It was only in 1508 that the village of Kostyukovo, located in the Luchitskaya volost of the Mstislavsky voivodeship, was first mentioned in written sources. A written document has been preserved stating that the Grand Duke Sigismund I of Lithuania granted this village to the nobleman Senka Mstislavets on condition that he performed military service.
According to modern legend, the name of the city comes from the name of the first settler, Kostyuk, who was one of the distant descendants of Radim. Kostyuk settled in the dense forests on the left bank of the Zhadunka River, and since then this place has become known as Kostyukovichi.
The museum was founded in 1973 on the basis of the Museum of Military Glory thanks to the efforts of history teacher Vladimir Laminsky. 17 years later, in 1990, the museum moved to a specially built two-story building. The main fund of the museum has more than 16,000 items of storage, and the scientific and auxiliary fund includes more than 7,000 objects. Currently, the museum has two exhibitions.
The "Nature" room includes many sections such as the origin of the Earth, the development of life on our planet, geology, flora and fauna of the area, nature conservation and geomorphology. The exhibition provides an exhaustive account of the natural history and diversity of the region.
The second exhibition hall is called "The History of the Region" and covers various aspects of the region's past. It consists of sections: archeology and ancient history, the history of the Middle Ages, the region as part of Mogilev province, ethnography and everyday life, education, the revolutionary movement and the establishment of Soviet power, the Great Patriotic War, the socio-economic development of the region, the Chernobyl tragedy, famous countrymen and spiritual heritage.
The museum has a socio-political center, where round tables, seminars, meetings with veterans, famous countrymen and creative evenings are regularly held.
