Trinity Church in Kossovo

Its history begins in 1626, when a wooden church was built on the site of the current temple. Tadeusz Kosciuszko was baptized in this church on February 12, 1746. The metrical book with the record of baptism under No. 479 is kept in the National Museum in Warsaw under No. 23625/MN. A stone font from the old church has also been preserved.

In 1859, at the grave of ks. Adam Dmakhovsky built a cemetery chapel, for the construction of the walls of which medieval tombstones were used. However, in 1872, the church burned down during a major city fire. In 1877, thanks to the efforts of parishioners, especially Vandalin Puslovsky, the owner of Merechevschina, the church was rebuilt in stone and acquired a modern look. In 1928, a monument to the participants of the 1863-64 uprising was erected here, and in 1937 the organ was expanded. The church is still operating continuously.

Architecturally, the temple is a single-nave building with a rectangular volume. The nave is completed by a pentagonal apse with two side sacristy. The main facade is decorated with a four-sided tent tower-bell tower. The side facades are rhythmically divided by stepped buttresses and lancet windows with stained glass windows. The nave is covered with a cylindrical vault with decking and arched arches decorated with ornamental paintings. Above the entrance there are choirs on two columns. The center of the main altar is the icon "Mother of God of Mercy".

The Church of the Holy Trinity is not only a historically significant building, but also a striking example of Neo-Gothic architecture. The peculiarities of this style are manifested in the narrow long windows with stained glass and the rectangular shape of the building with an apse of five sides. However, some sources characterize the style of the temple as neo-Romanesque. On the main facade there is a bell tower, which has a four-sided tent shape. The temple is painted white, and the rest of the elements, including the roof, have a brown tint, giving the impression of freshness and novelty, despite its centuries-old history.

Inside the church there is an altar with the inscription "Pray for us, Mother of God." In the altar there is a miraculous icon in a beautiful silver frame, which, according to legend, is about 350 years old. It is said that after the fire that destroyed the wooden church, the icon remained untouched. Not only Catholics, but also Orthodox and Protestants come to worship this icon, believing in its miraculous powers. Stories about healing after prayers in front of the icon include getting rid of cancer and severe heart disease.

Today, you can visit Kossovo, visit the Trinity Church and pray at the miraculous icon both as part of a tourist group and on your own. People come here not only from Belarus, but also from Russia, Ukraine and Poland.

The Neo-Gothic Church of the Holy Trinity is recognized as an important architectural monument and is included in the list of cultural and historical values of Belarus.
