Kolodnoye. St. Dmitry's Church.

In Stolin district, on the Pinsk-Stolin highway, there is an ancient village of Kolodnoye, which had a Skirmunt manor and a wooden Orthodox church of St. Dmitry. Only the park has been preserved from the Skirmunt estate to our time.

There are two legends about the origin of the name Kolodnoye. The first tells us that when the Tatars came to this region and destroyed the nearest castle, the inhabitants of this castle fled to the forests and hid behind the decks. The second legend speaks about the cult of the spring in this region, that they have always been appreciated and protected. And one source of wood, in order to equip it, instead of a log house, they made an empty oak deck.

The place has been known since the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and was first mentioned in 1507. It originally belonged to Maria Rovenskaya. Later, the Skirmunts became the owners of Kolodnoye, which had large possessions in Polesie. The heyday of the Skirmuntov estate begins in the 19th century.

Kolodnoye was also affected by the events of the anti-Russian uprising of 1863-1864. Fighting took place near Kolodnoye between rebels and Russian troops. The Skirmunts supported the uprising and were deprived of their estate, which passed to Nikolai Garting, and then to Yakov Sazanovich.

Around the same time, in the 19th century, a wooden Orthodox church was built on the outskirts of Kolodny at the local cemetery, which was consecrated in honor of St. Dmitry. The church is an architectural monument of national significance. The temple was built in a pseudo-Russian style with elements of classicism.

The building consists of three main parts: a vestibule, a prayer hall and an apse. The main volume of the temple is covered with a four-pitched roof. The building has been renovated in recent years. A wooden frame bell tower was built in front of the church.

The cemetery with the church is located between Kolodnoye and the village of Ponizhye.
