Description

The construction of the Shalevich estate in Koldychevo dates back to the 19th century. Today, only a park has been preserved in its place, it is of historical value. The manor house and other buildings, unfortunately, have not survived to this day.
Koldychevo is now included in the route of military historical excursions. It is known that the Nazi occupiers set up a concentration camp on the territory of the former Shalevich estate, where 22,000 prisoners died. An obelisk has been erected here in memory of these tragic events.

The Shalevich estate in the village of Koldychevo.

In the 16th century, the lands near Koldychevo first attracted the attention of the famous Gorunovich and Takhtamysh dynasties, and in 1523 the village was already listed among the personal possessions of the famous Prince of Grand Duchy of Lithuania Zhigimont the Old.

During the centuries-old history, Koldychevo often passed from one owner to another: Oleshkovichi and Yambekovich, after which in 1576 the village became part of the Polish crown under the rule of King Stefan Batory as his personal patrimony.

The final stage of this chain was the era of Tomas Shalevich (until 1932), whose name became inextricably linked with the estate that once stood here.

These lands, steeped in history and having gone through many changes of owners from princes to kings, embody the pages of the great chronicle. Each surname has contributed to the fate of Koldychevo, leaving an indelible mark on its territory. Tomas Shalevich's possessions became the last bright moment before the tragic events of the 20th century, when the history of the village was overshadowed by terrible trials.

A concentration camp was set up on these lands. According to official data, about 22,000 innocent people died in this territory in the short period from 1942 to 1943. This figure is comparable to the population of an entire district...

It is amazing that for a long time the tragedy of the Koldychevo death camp was not talked about. Only decades after the war and thanks to the active initiatives of the public, an obelisk was erected here in 2013, symbolizing grief for the innocent victims.

Now the Grieving Mother is a monument on a mass grave, which reminds everyone of the inexhaustible memory and respect for the history of these places...
