Castle Square in Kobrin is one of the most ancient squares in the city.
There is evidence that the Castle Square in Kobrin appeared in 1798. There was a market and fairs were held here, and important city affairs were discussed. Today, the Castle Square reminds us of the existence of the Kobrin Castle.
In accordance with important events taking place in the city, the square was renamed several times. From 1915 to 1918, when the territory of Kobrin was occupied, the square was called Komendantskaya Square. With the advent of Soviet power, it was called "Square of July 11", from 1921 to 1939 - it was called Bankovskaya Square due to the proximity of the bank building nearby, after the end of the Great Patriotic War - Komsomol Square.
On the day of the city’s 700th anniversary in 1987, it was decided to name the square “Square of the 700th Anniversary of Kobrin” and only in 2003 was its name returned to Castle Square.
A memorial sign in honor of the city’s 700th anniversary and 7 boulders, symbolizing the seven centuries that the city has experienced, have been erected on the square.
The former bank building, located on Castle Square, now houses the Civil Registry Office.
This beautiful yellow and white building with massive columns and arched windows has been awarded the title of historical and cultural value of Belarus.
Nearby is the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, and not far away is a beautiful embankment along the Mukhovets River.
