The tombstone of the Mickeviches is a landmark of Kobrin.
In the middle of the 19th century, Alexander Mickiewicz, a writer and lawyer who was the younger brother of the famous Belarusian and Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz, acquired the Gubernia estate in Kobrin, which previously belonged to A.V. Suvorov.
After his death in 1871, he was buried in the cemetery located next to the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
A majestic monument in the image of a grieving angel is installed on his grave. Alexander Mickiewicz played an important role not only in the history of Belarus, but also in the culture of a number of other countries, such as Poland, Lithuania and Russia. Alexander, born in 1804, was not only the brother of the famous poet, but also his biographer. He devoted a significant part of his life to teaching and studying law, having achieved the status of a full professor at Kharkiv University.
He spent the last years of his life in the city of Kobrin after buying the Gubernia estate.
His tombstone has become one of the main attractions of Kobrin. Mickiewicz is remembered as a man who emphasized the importance of science in society and contributed to understanding the biography of his brother Adam.
