The only functioning church in the city. A monument of classical architecture.
The Kobrin Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built of stone. Its construction was carried out thanks to donations from parishioners and lasted from 1841 to 1843.
In 1864, the famous artist Napoleon Orda visited this church. He later depicted it in his drawings.
The church operated during the Great Patriotic War. Amazingly, it survived and was not damaged during these years.
In 1962, by decision of the Soviet authorities, the church was closed and was not used until 1990. A warehouse was temporarily organized here and gradually the church fell into disrepair. In 1990, it was returned to the believers and reconstructed.
There is a cemetery on the territory, where on September 13, 2008, the reburial of Polish soldiers who died in 1939 took place. The film “Countdown. Battle for Kobryn” was made about the events that took place here that year ( https://youtu.be/gfvJ2sD__eM?si=NYQjaDtr0G0gk3c7 ).
A very beautiful and majestic church with a large, well-kept area! The carved wooden figures of saints in the niches attract attention. In the church itself, you can see the miraculous image of the Savior.
In the cemetery located near the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, you can see the grave of the poet's younger brother Adam Mickiewicz. The writer and lawyer Alexander Mickiewicz bought an estate in Kobrin belonging to Suvorov A.V., and was buried here in 1871.
