The main Orthodox shrine of the Kobrin land.

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was built on the site of a mass grave of Russian soldiers who died during the battle that took place in July 1812 in Kobrin, during which Russian troops won a victory over Napoleon's army. The initiators of the construction were local peasants. The cathedral was built on this site in memory of the fallen soldiers, as well as in honor of the liberation of the peasants from serfdom in 1861. Five gilded crosses, brought from St. Petersburg in 1866, are installed on the domes.

The temple survived two world wars without destruction, well preserved. However, in Soviet times it was used first as a planetarium, then as a cinema, then as an archive. The church library and archive, unfortunately, were burned, and the building was partially reconstructed.

The cathedral was returned to the faithful only in 1990. It was re-consecrated by Metropolitan Filaret of Minsk and Slutsk, and significant restoration work was carried out.

Since 1999, the cathedral has housed an icon of the holy faithful prince Alexander Nevsky with a particle of his relics. With the help of parishioners, a chapel in the name of the Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord John was erected on the territory.

A very beautiful Orthodox church with rich interior decoration and a rich history. Beautiful architecture, everything is picturesque, well-kept territory. Near the fence of the cathedral in 1912 a monument was erected in honor of the victory in the battle of July 15, 1812.

This is the main Orthodox shrine of Kobrin region, which is definitely worth visiting!
