Description

This temple has been one of the largest Catholic spiritual centers of the Kletsk region for many centuries. Its historical significance cannot be overestimated, since the first mention of the Holy Trinity Church dates back to 1353.

In the 2000s, the construction of a new Trinity Church began in the city, which was to replace its predecessor. Unfortunately, the old Trinity Church has not been fully preserved to this day. All that remains of it is a dilapidated fragment of the western wall, reminiscent of the former greatness and significance of this spiritual center.

Kletsk. Church of the Holy Trinity

The construction of the new church was carried out on the site of the dismantled Gothic church of St. Andrew. In 1420, during the religious Hussite wars, the temple was destroyed. Later, the building was restored and consecrated in the name of the Holy Trinity. In 1724, architect P. I. Bayer worked on the reconstruction project of the church. However, the real construction work began in 1728-1729, when the nave of the church was expanded. In 1751, the Golgotha Chapel was added to it.

In the 18th century, the church was looted by Swedish troops, as a result of which two stone cannon balls remained in the church tower. In 1810, the building was damaged by fire, but thanks to the funds of Nikolai Josef Radziwill, it was restored. A sculpture of Christ was installed in the niche above the entrance. The interior of the temple was rich and decorated: a lacquered sculptural altar depicting the Holy Trinity, seven side altars with icons of St. Peter the Great. St. Nicholas, St. Anna, the Virgin Mary, the Crucified Christ and St. Tadeusz the Apostle. There was also a high-quality organ in the church.

The 20th century proved devastating for the church: in 1937 the bell was melted down, and in 1959 the church building was blown up. The local population quickly dismantled the bricks for various buildings, and the surviving wall of the temple now stands in the courtyard of a local resident.

In 2003, the restored “Roman Catholic Parish of the Holy Trinity” in the town of Kletsk received a plot of land in the city center for the construction of a new Catholic church of the Holy Trinity. Architecturally, this new church resembles a former church that existed in the city for almost 500 years. The solemn consecration of the new shrine took place on June 30, 2012.
