Kletsk. The ancient settlement.

On the outskirts of the ancient town of Kletsk there is Castle Hill, or in another way it is also called the Hillfort. The castle is located between the modern city and Lake Kletskoye, on the banks of the Lan River. Researchers date the monument to the era of Kievan Rus in the 11th-13th centuries.

The settlement consists of Detinets, a fortified town, and a Roundabout town that was built near defensive structures. There is a defensive moat 30 meters wide and about seven meters deep between the Hillfort and the Roundabout City.

On a natural hill there is a Detinets separating a deep moat from the river. The detinets are 80 meters in diameter and have the shape of a circle. It rises ten meters above the floodplain of the Lan River. There was a defensive earthen rampart over a meter high along the edge of the Detinets. The roundabout city measures 100 by 400 meters in the shape of an ellipsoid. It was fortified with a defensive earthen rampart of about one meter.

Archaeological research was conducted after the Great Patriotic War. The excavations were conducted by the famous Belarusian archaeologist Pyotr Fedorovich Lysenko (1931-2020), Doctor of Historical Sciences, professor, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus.

Weapons, glass bracelets, tools of labor and everyday life were found.
