Description

There is an interesting historical town of Kanichi in the Kostyukovitsky district, where Belarusian magnates Tsekhanovetskys once had their estate. The manor house itself has not reached us, but the remains of the brick church and the brewery have been preserved. The wooden Orthodox church of the 19th century was destroyed in recent years, unfortunately, and only a linden graft remained.

Kanichi. Church ruins.

Once Kanichi was a big town, where life was whirling. The Tsekhanovets, who owned large land holdings in the east of Belarus, had their estate here. The first church in Kanich dates back to the beginning of the 19th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, a huge Catholic church was built on the basis of the Tsekhanovets foundation, which was consecrated in honor of the Holy Guardian Angels. The church was started to be built in 1900 above the dark cellar of the Tsekhanovets magnates, and the church was completed in 1910. The main facade was decorated with two massive four-sided towers. The interior of the church was richly decorated with stained glass windows and frescoes. The church had its own organ, which, according to local residents, was taken away by Nazi invaders during the war. In the post-war period, the local collective farm needed building material and with the help of tractors they tried to demolish the walls - but nothing came of it... The church was built very well and the walls turned out to be very strong. Not far from the church, the building of the local brewery, which was also built with the funds of the Tsekhanovets, has been preserved. The brewery is made of brick, made of red brick. 30 years ago, it was used by the local collective farm, but now, like the church, it has fallen into disrepair.
