Kamenets. Monument to architect Alex the towncutter.

In the historical center of Kamenets, between the Church of St. Simeon and the Kamenetsky Tower, there is a monument to the architect Alex towncutter.

According to the Ipatiev Chronicle, in the 13th century, Volyn Prince Vladimir Vasilkovich sent Volyn urban planner Alex up the Lesnaya river to choose a convenient location for a fortress that would protect the borders of the Volyn Principality. And in 1276, Alex built a city called Kamenets.

The monument was erected in 1990 in the very center of Kamenets. The monument was unveiled solemnly, and this is how the local newspaper reported on this event: "The historical part of our ancient Kamenets was recently decorated with a bronze composition dedicated to its founder, an associate of Prince Vladimir Volynsky, Alex. The author of the sculpture is Alexander Ivanovich Lyschik, a teacher at the Belarusian Theater and Art Institute, for whom this work is especially dear: Kamenets is his homeland and therefore he worked on the composition with special enthusiasm."

Locals call the monument very simply - "Bison".

The author is Alexander Ivanovich Lyschik, a famous Belarusian sculptor whose works are found throughout our country and abroad.

There is also a belief here that if you find yourself near the monument, you should rub the horns of a bison for good luck.
